Corum Looks To The Open Seas Once Again For Inspiration Offering An Updated Admiral Collection
When it comes to Corum, the one thing they have constantly done over the years is to continuously push the boundaries of its watchmaking, not only in terms of the movement but also in the design of their watches. This year is no different. For Watches & Wonders 2021 they have unveiled a host of watches that draw on their heritage but feature new and interesting design elements. As the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, why fix it.” Therefore for 2021, they are dedicating their time to the improvement of their most iconic collections, the Admiral’s Cup.
Corum Admiral 45 Automatic Openworked Flying Tourbillon Carbon & Gold
This watch marks the 2021 flagship of this collection. For the first time, Corum is offering a case that fuses two contrasting materials carbon and gold. Not only is it contrasting in colour – the dynamic and exciting black of carbon versus the warm elegance of gold – both materials are also usually used in opposite ends of the industry. The 45 mm case is constructed by combining fluctuating layers of ultra-light carbon and subsequently mixed in with 18k gold glitter giving the dark carbon case flecks of shimmering gold.
To accompany such an Avant-Garde case, Corum also equipped it with the CO 298 movement that offers a highly theatrical, open-worked construction with a flying tourbillon escapement. The use of a tourbillon is also a nod to the sailing world that inspired the original Admiral’s Cup watch.
Corum Admiral 42 Automatic
This 42 mm case reference is the most versatile Admiral yet. The size sits perfectly on men’s wrists but also could be worn by women as an oversized piece. This regular model in the collection brings back the traditional colours within the 12 nautical pennants surrounding the dial. A small seconds indicator sits at the six o’clock position with the word Admiral incorporated into it. The case is a combination of polished and fine-brushed stainless steel and will come with either a steel bracelet or rubber strap. All of the Corum Admiral 42 watches are powered by the CO 395 movement.
Corum Admiral 38 Automatic
Adding yet more choice in terms of size, the Corum Admiral 38 has an even smaller case in 38 mm. The watch is also made lighter through the use of a titanium case and bracelet. Although there are some designs catered for women, especially this sweet pink version you see here. But there are also more unisex colours that will appeal to both genders depending on the size of their wrists.
