Swiss independent watchmaker Breitling unveils a new model—the Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 Cobra, limited to just 200 pieces.
Featuring the image of a cobra on the subdial at 9 o’clock and a bold colour scheme, this limited edition conveys both personality and prominence.
Breitling’s ties to aviation date back to the 1930s, when third-generation founder Willy Breitling formed the HUIT Aviation Department, dedicated to creating precision aircraft instruments and pilots’ chronographs. Its expertise in the then-emerging field of military aviation carried through to the birth of commercial air travel and beyond, resulting in such renowned timepieces as the Navitimer, the AVI Co-Pilot, the Aerospace, the Emergency, and the Avenger. No other watch brand has a more impressive and enduring link to aviation.
Launched in 2001, the Avenger collection was initially built for fighter pilots, to take on the toughest cockpits and offer unrivaled stability and performance. For over 20 years, the Avenger has been at the forefront of airborne adventure. But you don’t need air-force credentials to appreciate its bold design, exceptional resilience, and next-level functionality.
This new distinctive timepiece features a bold 44mm case size that exudes a dominant, yet daring, presence. The grip pattern on the crown and bezel, as well as the square chronograph pushers ensure the watch can be easily operated by pilots wearing gloves. Its highly legible Arabic numerals recall the stenciled numbers used on the decks of aircraft carriers. This limited edition features an anthracite military leather strap with pin buckle and has a water resistance of 300m, making the watch capable of meeting any environmental demand. These design considerations are direct reflections of the Avenger‘s military-aviation DNA.
As a limited edition, this watch has a distinctive allure. True to its name, the Cobra draws inspiration from the cobra, a creature admired for its speed, precision, agility, and resourcefulness—qualities that the cobra embodies like no other. With its unmistakable shape, formidable size, and commanding presence, the cobra is a true apex predator. Its aura of mystery and intimidation only reinforces its role as a natural leader. This watch channels those very qualities into a bold new Avenger.
The yellow dial reflects Breitling’s signature colour. The subdials at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock are black, enhanced by a black rehaut. Instead of the usual 20, 40 and 60 numerals, the second subdial at 9 o’clock features an outlined cobra in bright red, with its head standing upright and its neck expanding to show the strength and fearlessness. The chronograph hand, like the cobra’s tongue unfurling, precisely captures the passing seconds. Up close, the strap, hands, and subdials are accented in bright red. The combination of the three colours—yellow, black, and red—gives the watch an unmistakable boldness.
A bright red snake seems to slither over the open caseback, coiling itself within the mechanisms of the movement. The watch is equipped with Breitling’s Manufacture Caliber 01, which was the brand’s first in-house movement released in 2009. Having a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and a five-year warranty, it is the industry-standard chronograph caliber in terms of precision, reliability and functionality. As with all of Breitling’s movements, it is a COSC-certified chronometer. The inscriptions “ONE OF 200” and “LIMITED EDITION” are engraved on the edge of the caseback. The Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 Cobra Limited Edition will become available in December 2024.
