Glashütte Original, as a company, reflects all of the amazing histories at the centre of German horology. Glashütte Uhrenbetrieb GmbH, the company behind this brand, is a member of the Swatch Group and was started by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in the small Saxon town of Glashütte in the mid-19th century.

By 1865, the typical precision pocket watches made in Glashütte were tremendously advanced, embodying inventions such as the Glashütte three-quarter plate, gold lever wheels, and a sunburst finish on the case. In 1921, the flying tourbillon was developed by Alfred Helwig, bringing wide acclaim for him and the Glashütte Original brand – this mechanism eventually produced the best rate precision of any portable watch.

As demand continues to grow for wristwatch movement blanks, Glashütte Original produced the first ladies’ watch in 1927 with its brand name imprinted on the dial. In 1960, Glashütte produced elegantly designed and durable timepieces made for everyday wear. Both men’s and ladies’ watches were designed with shock resistance, date display, sweep seconds, automatic winding, and most of all, improved accuracy.
