New Zenith Defy Midnight
Zenith is very much focusing on women this year. The Zenith Defy Midnight is the Le Locle manufacture’s first dedicated women’s collection and according to CEO Julian Tornare, one of the main growth segments over the last two and a half years. For LVMH Watch Week, Zenith debuts a new manufacture movement (elite 670SK) specific for the new Defy Midnight collection. 36mm and available in deep blue or grey treatments, the dial features a glossy finish with a vertical gradient effect for an unprecedented depth and of course, a woman’s staple – mother of pearl execution for shimmering sophistication.
The trio of gradient dials marked with the night sky (hiding a secret which only twilight reveals: luminous stars) and matching diamond hour markers, is backed by an accessorial system that her owner makes easy changes between the steel bracelet and the included color-coordinated straps without tools (or risk of damage to manicured nails).
With 100 metres water resistance and 50 hours power reserve, the Zenith defy Midnight is a woman’s daily companion from desk to a dinner date. In both flat polished stainless steel or stainless steel set with 44 VS brilliant-cut diamonds, the ladies’ Zenith Defy Midnight is quite capable in matching denim or dress gowns.
New Zenith Elite Moonphase in both 36mm and 40.5mm editions
Zenith’s most traditionally styled collection now comes with a number of aesthetic updates – a sunburst guilloche dial and matching faceted dauphine hands and hour indexes which are simply gorgeous in person due to the reflective qualities of ambient lighting. Adorned with diamond-set bezels, the 36mm Zenith Elite Moonphase is definitely designated as the more feminine of the two, however, slightly reworked case geometry allows the smaller model to be worn on masculine wrists as a dress watch much in the same vein as a vintage Calatrava.
The ultra-thin Elite 692 movement powering the new collection also makes a 9.35mm case thickness possible for the Zenith Elite Moonphase. That said, because both 40mm and 36mm editions use the same movement, the proportions of the dial layout are a little dissimilar, affecting the design of the watch ever so slightly. It’s not noticeable to all but the most eagle-eyed observer, hence, it’s considered a small conceit reserved only for the most discerning of watch connoisseurs.
